The Saint Louis Cathedral is the oldest Cathedral in North America, founded as a Catholic Parish in 1720 along the Banks of the Mississippi River in New Orleans.

The Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans.

It is also known as the the Basilica of St. Louis.

Located next to Jackson Square, with its statue of Andrew Jackson on horseback, and facing the Mississippi River, the St. Louis Cathedral is one of New Orleans' most recognizable landmarks.

The cathedral was designated as a minor basilica by Pope Paul VI in 1964.
