The California Capitol building is home to the Office of the Governor, the California Legislature and the State Capitol Museum. Like many capitols around the country, it is neoclassical in design and has a dome.

Inside and outside of the building you will find many representations of the Roman goddess Minerva. She was born as a fully formed women and represents California's rise to statehood without first being a territory of the United States.

Like the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, the CA Capitol Building has two domes, and inner dome and an outer dome.

The gold ball at the top of the dome is said to resemble a golden nugget and represents the California Gold Rush.
