Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The names of the nearly 58,000 Americans who died in Vietnam or who remain unaccounted for are inscribed on the walls in chronological order.

The memorial is formed by two polished black granite walls, each 246.8 feet long, meeting at an angle of approximately 125 degrees and forming an open wedge.

The memorial was opened to the public on November 13, 1982.

The designer of the memorial was Maya Ying Lin.
